Disruption is expected until approximately 09:00 on Saturday 15 November.

Customer advice:

How does this affect my journey?

Speed restrictions have been imposed from 15:00 on Friday 14 November until 08:00 on Saturday 15 November, meaning trains may have to run at a reduced speed. This will result in severe delays and short notice cancellations.

TransPennine Express services across the whole network will be affected, and will run to an amended timetable from 13:00. The following trains will run in both directions:

  • Cleethorpes and Liverpool Lime Street services will be revised to only run between Cleethorpes and Manchester Piccadilly. Two services will run per hour
  • Hull and Liverpool Lime Street services will be revised to only run between Hull and Leeds
  • Scarborough and Manchester Victoria services will be revised only run between Scarborough and York
  • Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly services calling at Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield, Mossley, Stalybridge will be reduced to only run hourly
  • Glasgow Central and Manchester Airport / Liverpool Lime Street services will be revised to only run between Glasgow Central and Preston

The following services are expected to run as planned in both directions:

  • Manchester Airport and Edinburgh / Redcar Central
  • Liverpool Lime Street and Newcastle
  • Newcastle and Edinburgh
  • Manchester Piccadilly and York via Wakefield Kirkgate

What should I do?

It is strongly advised that you check before you travel on any TransPennine Express service after 13:00 on Friday 14 November.

Even though there may be some trains running, these may be subject to short notice alterations.

If you have purchased a ticket and your journey has been affected by this disruption, you can use your ticket dated Friday 14 November to travel on any earlier TransPennine Express service before 13:00, or at any time on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November at no extra cost.

Alternatively, if the train you intended to travel on is cancelled or you are unable to complete your journey then you can apply for a refund from your point of purchase.

To help you complete your journey, you can use your ticket at no extra cost to travel on the following services in both directions on Friday 14 November:

  • Metrolink between Manchester Victoria / Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport
  • Avanti West Coast services between Preston and Glasgow Central / Edinburgh (all day)
  • East Midlands Railway services between Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester and Sheffield (before 12:00)
