Description of Incident

Major engineering work is taking place between Preston area, closing some lines.

Avanti West Coast:

The following services will be amended:

Saturday and Sunday:

  • 1 train per hour Rugby to Manchester Piccadilly (via Crewe)
  • 1 train per hour Northampton to Manchester Piccadilly (via Hixon and Macclesfield)
  • 1 train per hour Rugby to Liverpool Lime Street
  • 1 train per hour Rugby to Wigan North Western (via Birmingham New Street)
  • 2 trains per hour between Lockerbie and Glasgow Central
  • 2 trains per hour between Lockerbie and Edinburgh
  • Limited service between Crewe and Holyhead
  • Limited service between Wigan North Western and Carlisle (via the Settle & Carlisle, approx. 1 every other hour)

Rail replacement buses will operate between Carlisle and Lockerbie.

Monday and Tuesday:

  • London Euston to Glasgow Central (via Trent Valley) will run between London Euston and Preston only
  • London Euston to Edinburgh (via Birmingham New Street) will run between London Euston and Preston only
  • 2 trains per hour between Lockerbie and Glasgow Central
  • 2 trains per hour between Lockerbie and Edinburgh
  • Limited service between Preston and Carlisle (via the Settle & Carlisle, approx. 1 every other hour)

Rail replacement buses will operate between Carlisle and Lockerbie.

Wednesday to Friday:

  • London Euston to Glasgow Central (via Trent Valley) will run between London Euston and Preston only
  • London Euston to Edinburgh (via Birmingham New Street) will run between London Euston and Preston only
  • 1 train per hour between Carlisle and Glasgow Central
  • Limited service between Preston and Carlisle (via the Settle & Carlisle, approx. 1 every other hour)

Northern:

Saturday and Sunday:

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Blackburn and Preston
  • Preston and Blackpool North
  • Buckshaw Parkway and Ormskirk (via Preston)

Trains will continue to run between Blackburn and Bamber Bridge.

Ticket acceptance:

You can use your tickets at no extra cost on replacement buses between:

  • Preston and Lancaster (operated by TransPennine Express)
  • Wigan North Western and Preston (operated by Avanti West Coast)

Monday to Friday:

Northern services are not affected by engineering works on these days.

TransPennine Express:

Train service will operate as follows:

Saturday and Sunday:

  • Manchester Airport to Buckshaw Parkway
  • Edinburgh to Glasgow Central

Monday and Tuesday:

  • Manchester Airport to Buckshaw Parkway
  • Liverpool Lime Street to Preston
  • Edinburgh to Glasgow Central

Wednesday to Friday:

  • Manchester Airport to Oxenholme Lake District
  • Liverpool Lime Street to Preston
  • Carlisle to Edinbugh / Glasgow Central
