  1. Someone really needs to look at the signage for the Scotch Corner services.
I travel past there quite frequently and since the major upgrade works were completed there don’t seem to be a many advanced signs as there used to be.
There’s the usual “services in 3 miles” sort of sign in both directions, but there’s no signage in the last mile or so. There’s no sign to say “services next exit” and the sign prior to the exit has place/destination names on, but no mention of services or “Scotch Corner”.
When you actually reach the junction, there is a small sign at the back end of the hatched marked triangle between the main carriageway and slip Road which simply states “rest area”, but by the time you see it, it’s already too late to get onto the exit slip.
Prior to the major upgrades there were more signs, signs which included “services” along with all the other junction/exit/destination information and especially a “services” sign at the start of the 3,2,1 countdown markers.

I know where the scotch corner services are and I’ve missed the exit a couple of times, enough for me to put extra care and effort into looking for the signs. The signs just aren’t there, in either direction. Anyone that doesn’t know that section of road doesn’t stand a chance of accessing the services if they’re not using a sat-nav (programed to take them to the services) and relying solely on the expected signs that aren’t there.

  2. No information about the incident on the A1(M) northbound near the M62 Ferrybridge junction on Saturday 13th May ’23 around 18:30 onwards. Total closure and diversions for northbound traffic which lasted over 8 hours with the section reopening around 3am.
Judging by the number of emergency vehicles and air ambulance on scene it was a major incident and yet there’s been no mention about it anywhere (other than a small post by the highways agency on twitter – social media is great, but it shouldn’t be the only source of information to assist with journey planning)

  3. Slow moving large vehicle northbound on A1 between Newark and Bawtry, letting very few vehicles past and lorries are very slowly and carefully overtaking, long tailbacks due to this

  4. Having last week left Newcastle Airport at 8pm there were 2 sets of roadworks and diversions on A1M Southbound. Fair enough, work has to be done. BUT the diversion signs were a disgrace. For someone who knew the area vaguely I was still having to turn round at various points when diversion signs had disappeared or did not say whether they were taking you North bound or South bound – lousy organisation!

  5. Why is the southbound a1 near Biggleswade closed? The diversion signs just sends you back northbound!!!!
This has been closed all day.
Passing northbound there appears to be nothing happening.

  6. You are totally wrong on a1m Jun ton 40/41 15 mins!!! More like 1 hour 15 mins we have been stuck 50 mins already and no sign of the end.

  7. PLEASE be very very careful driving in the rain on the A1 Southbound between SAWTRY and ALCONBURY there is a bend in the A1 which
causes standing water to settle there.

Unfortunately I know this as my car and another car aquaplaned right there in the freak weather that suddenly hit on Wednesday around 5.40pm.
I was not seriously hurt but I am severely traumatised.

*** The policeman who attended the scene told me this was how the accident happened. How can this not be rectified if they know this. I’m not the
first and wont be the last .

  8. What is the point of this page when it doesn’t tell you when the road is closed. Because it’s closed now and it says nothing about it

  9. there was standstill congestion in all directions. if you are a lorry or any transport there is a speed trap on the road. Brampton Hut aervices are empty.

  10. A1 in both directions slow traffic due to accident involving a car and a lorry. Beautiful sunrise this morning. Fog lights needed on A14. Roadworks on bridge repairs completed just waiting for inside lane to reopen.
