Latest flood alert advice from the Environment Agency: River levels in Hellingly and Alfriston are higher than normal, but now falling following Sunday’s rain. Only isolated showers are forecast Monday and Tuesday, river levels should continue to fall. River levels should return near to normal by Tuesday. However widespread rain is forecast Wednesday morning. Potentially more rain than recorded on Sunday. If as much rain falls as is currently predicted, from Wednesday evening flood impacts could affect properties on Hammer Lane, Grove Hill, and Mill Lane, Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly. From Thursday flood impacts may affect North Street, River Lane, The Old Clergy House, Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston. River levels should peak, and begin to fall by Thursday afternoon in Hellingly, but not until Friday in Alfriston. River levels should return near to normal over the weekend. Unsettled weather will continue throughout February. Don’t put yourself or others at risk. Avoid roads that flood (Mill Lane, Church Road Hellingly, North Street Alfriston).
