Description of Incident

Storm Amy is expected to bring very strong winds to many parts of Scotland, northwest England and northwest Wales and heavy rain to Scotland. Yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office.

Customer advice:

Please check before you travel, and allow extra time for your journey on the affected days. Services may be subject to delays and cancellations as a result of the poor weather.

Any disruptions that are related to the severe weather will be published once we have more information.

Additional information:

Strong winds can blow trees into infrastructure, damaging the overhead lines that power electric trains. The winds can mean it’s unsafe to carry out repairs at height – or with certain machinery until the winds have dropped. Trains may have to run at a reduced speed causing delays to your journey.

Heavy rain can cause flood water to rise above the rails, trains have to reduce their speed because debris may have moved onto the rails, or the ground underneath the track may have washed away. Flooding can cause signalling equipment to fail.

Check before you travel:

You can check your journey using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.

Compensation:

You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
