Description of Incident

Engineering work is taking place between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss Bay / Gourock, closing all lines. Background information on the work can be found below.

Buses will replace trains between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss Bay / Gourock.

A few early morning / late night buses will run between Glasgow Central and Wemyss Bay / Gourock.

No trains or buses will call at Paisley St James. You should instead use Paisley Gilmour Street or use the help point for travel assistance.

Alternate bus services operated by McGill’s are available. Train tickets will not be valid for these services. You must purchase tickets issued by McGill’s online, via their mobile app, or on the bus. For more information, please visit the McGill’s website.

Background information:

Network Rail will be carrying out £4m of improvements across the Inverclyde line, to improve the long-term resilience and reliability of the line. The work will involve essential repairs and renewals across key locations, including:

  • Fixing and replacing parts of the walls that support the railway in Greenock, including new concrete sections
  • Replacing the main deck of the River Gryffe Bridge, repairing the steel to strengthen it
  • Repairing the steel that supports the railway on Houston Road, Georgetown
  • Fixing the steel under the bridge and replacing part of the platform with modern, durable materials at Station Road in Langbank
