Great Western Railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Castle Cary / Weymouth, and between Swindon and Frome / Castle Cary / Weymouth, and also between London Paddington and Exeter St Davids / Paignton / Plymouth / Penzance

Description of Incident

Engineering work is taking place between Westbury and Castle Cary, closing all lines.

Long distance services:

Trains between London Paddington and Plymouth / Penzance will be diverted to run via Bristol Temple Meads (calling additionally), and will run to a slightly reduced timetable. These trains will not call at Hungerford, Newbury, Pewsey, Westbury or Castle Cary. Some of these trains will additionally call at Swindon

Trains between London Paddington and Paignton will not run.

Travel advice:

  • For Newbury and Hungerford, you should travel via Reading and local rail services.
  • For Pewsey, you should travel via Swindon and road transport between Swindon and Pewsey (taking 45 minutes)
  • For Westbury, you should travel via Bath Spa and rail connections

Local services:

Buses will replace trains between:

  • Westbury and Frome
  • Westbury and Castle Cary (calling at Frome and Bruton)
  • Castle Cary and Taunton

Additionally:

  • The 08:06 Reading to Newbury will not run. Earlier road transport will run at 07:51 from Reading to Newbury, calling all stations except Newbury Racecourse (connecting at Newbury with the amended train below)
  • The 08:33 Reading to Bedwyn will start from Newbury at 09:02
